Growing
up in a rural community North of Appleton, Roger and Rory Schlomann learned at an early
age from their parents the value of a solid work ethic, the importance of a
strong family bond, and the benefits of drive and determination.
The Schlomann brothers have coupled the work skills garnered in their
youth with education and experience, giving them the edge needed to own and
operate their successful building company, Heritage Homes and Development,
Inc.
After
high school both brothers went on to pursue higher education:
Roger attended Colorado State University and UW Madison, studying
business and finance. After
college, Roger went to work for a local construction company, building homes
in the Fox Valley. Rory enrolled
at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and in the summers worked for the same
builder that employed his brother. During
this time period, the Schlomann brothers helped each other build one
another’s homes, as perhaps the ultimate test of their family bond and
respect for one another’s building skills.
Heritage
Homes averages approximately 15-20 homes a year, both custom contract homes
and spec homes, building everything from mid-range homes to high-end executive
homes, with price ranges between $250,000 - $750,000 +. They have found their niche with their ability to offer high
quality, custom executive homes, and because of this have had the opportunity
to work with many corporate executives who have relocated to the area.
Jill
Faddis, who relocated to Appleton with her husband Dave, says, “We are so
pleased with the quality and thought that went into our beautiful home.
We appreciated them letting us make last minute changes and additions.
This is our fifth home, of which four have been brand new, and this is
by far superior,
and our favorite. We
have found everyone at Heritage Homes very responsive and easy to work with,
along with the sub-contractors. We
have appreciated all of the time and care that we have received even after the
home was finished.”
Some
standard features in every Heritage Home include Anderson Windows, 2-coat
plaster, oversized trim, 6-panel doors, 30-year architectural shingles, R44
attic insulation, and April Aire. Each
home is also built to Wisconsin Energy-Star Specifications and features Kohler plumbing products.
“This month marks our first anniversary in our Heritage built home. We
couldn't have been more pleased with the whole process......from first finding
our lot through an "on time" closing date. Heritage Homes built us a
first rate/premiere quality "home". The workmanship and attention to
detail are unsurpassed. They made the planning and decision process so easy.
And were readily available for any questions or concerns that came up. I can't
say enough great things about our experience with Heritage Homes and the
companies that they worked hand in hand with to give us our uniquely beautiful
home.” Said Rich and Jacquie Kern.
Heritage Homes also is involved with construction management of several
condominium projects currently underway in Appleton. Due to the combined buying power of the housing and
condominium projects, Heritage is able to keep the cost of their homes
affordable.
On-site management helps push the overall cost down by streamlining the
role of the subcontractors and by reducing waste on the site.
The financial department keeps all of the projects on budget, and
manages the funds to take advantage of discounts.
They also assure timely payments to the company’s pool of top-notch
craftsmen and suppliers many of which have been with the company since it’s
beginning.
Heritage Homes is a member of the Valley Home Builders’ Association, and
has entered homes in the Summer Parade of Homes and the Winter Showcase of
Homes for the past several years, some of which are showcased in this article.
With the future looking very bright, Roger and Rory Schlomann are
focusing on the growth of Heritage Homes, while maintaining the high level of
quality standards that brought them to where they are today.
They continue to be guided by their company slogan, “Demanding
Quality/Expecting Perfection.”
Long term plans include possibly expanding into land development endeavors,
to create beautiful well-designed neighborhoods for their homes.
In the meantime, they will go on doing what they do best – offering
customers an elegantly designed home for a competitive price, by a pair of
builders who are dedicated and passionate about their craft.
